I was responsible for websites creating, maintaining, and adding new content to the sites. A few magazines placed every article online. Others would just place a select few. In addition to adding content, it was my job to place advertisements on sites.
Here are some website’s I’ve created:
Forms
I swapped all paper forms, that were handed into a department or manager to online forms for three reasons:
- You don’t have to worry about filing any of the paperwork away.
- You can fill out the form from any computer in the shop, and it’s totally searchable.
- It only takes seconds to find out orders that were shipped on any date several years ago.
This was a huge improvement from the way things had been handled in the past. A few of the forms that I created:
- Shipping request form
- Time off request form
- Overtime request form
- Also, I’ve made countless forms for other clients and associations. Here is an example of one. Form for a client.
Page turn magazines
Also, one of my jobs for the web was creating online page turn magazines. Some of these magazines were available for free online and some are subscribed to. Here is an example of a page turn magazine I designed and put online: you’ll notice that all the advertiser’s pages are linked to their sites and the table of contents is linked to the correct pages. Here are two examples:
If you don’t have flash loaded on your machine here is an example of one that works without flash loaded (this changed last year) I didn’t design this publication:
My history with website creation.
I started making websites way back in the early 2000s mostly with HTML and Javascript. It took a very long time to put something extremely simple online, but I loved the challenge and proceeded to do this type of work for Village Press and several others. One of my first big jobs was creating the website for the Traverse City elementary sports program, T.E.A.M.
Later I did a project for TRCC. When I worked on this project it took me an entire weekend Friday night, all day Saturday, and all day Sunday. But after many hours it was complete and worked well for several years.
As time went on I was getting tired of being the only person that could make changes to the site, so I explored the software WordPress. I decided to remake the website using WordPress so that others could easily contribute. This time it didn’t take 3 days to complete. I did it in a single, long evening.
This worked perfectly and I was sold on WordPress. Through the years I have created sites using Joomla and Drupal also, but if I’m creating something for a client that doesn’t have a preference, it will be WordPress.
Soon, I remade all of my companies websites, and I was amazed that the number of people that “could” work on websites to add content, grew from 2 people to more than half the people at a 100 employee business. It was good.

SEO:
One of my biggest accomplishments was turning a couple of the sites that were advertising based, (not subscriber based) to the highest traffic of any site that I’ve ever done in the past. I was able to increase the traffic to these sites from around 9,000 visits per year to more than 28,000 visits every month! This happened in seven short years. But every year that I worked at it, it continued to build.
